Animal Care For Hot Summer Months

Dogs that have coats which allow air pocketing may want to keep their hair long because that layer of air offers a cool insulation effect. Consult with our groomer regarding the best steps to take considering your specific pet’s coat.
Whether you trim your dog’s coat or not, be aware that dogs can get heat stroke from being out in the sun too long. This can be life threatening!!! As soon as you see your pet panting excessively, wide open mouth breathing, disoriented with an anxious look on his/her face, RUSH HIM TO US AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Also, dogs and cats can get a horrible form of skin cancer with too much sun exposure. Dogs and cats with non-pigmented skin are most susceptible to squamous cell carcinoma, a cancer to avoid!! Keep these pets out of direct sunlight between 10 am and 4 pm; also, use sunscreen (water resistant, high SPF).
